Power generation

For many decades Sauer compressors have been operating reliably in all kinds of power plants throughout the world. Whether the plants operate continuously or in start/stop mode is of no consequence for our compressors. They simply operate with reassuring reliability. Diesel-engine generators

As an independent means of generating electricity, diesel-engine generators (or gen-sets) are used at building sites, production facilities in remote areas or as an emergency source of power for banks, airports and even entire towns. In these applications Sauer compressors are used for starting air and DENOX treatment. Power-plant operators, diesel-engine manufacturers, engineering offices and contractors are among our customers.

Gas-turbine power plants & combined heat-and-power plants

Whatever powers the generator that produces the electricity – flammable gases, steam or an internal combustion engine – Sauer compressors are deployed for starting air, purging air, sealing gas (nitrogen) and feeding in gas. Power-plant operators, turbine manufacturers, engineering offices and contractors are among our customers in this segment.

Steam power plants, coal-fired power plants & waste incineration facilities

In steam power plants the thermal energy contained in water vapour is used to power a steam turbine, which in turn drives the generator. Conventional fuels such as oil, natural gas, hard coal or brown coal are used to fire the steam boiler. In coal-fired power plants coal is the only fuel used, whereas waste incineration facilities can also use treated waste to generate electricity. In such applications Sauer compressors are used by power plant operators, turbine manufacturers, engineering offices and contractors for desulphurisation, removing fuel residues (soot blowing), DENOX treatment and cooling the turbines using hydrogen.

Hydroelectric power plants and other hydroelectric facilities

In low-, medium- and high-pressure hydroelectric plants, run-of-river plants and storage plants (including pumped storage plants) Sauer compressors are used for the braking air for pneumatic brakes, to adjust turbines blades and large valves (e.g. governor valves), for blowing air to blow out the water and eliminate the load during starting, and to prevent pulsation and cavitation. Power plant operators, turbine manufacturers, engineering offices and contractors are among Sauer customers in this segment.

Nuclear power plants

Although basically steam power plants, nuclear power plants obtain the energy to heat the steam by splitting atoms rather than burning fossil fuels. Here, Sauer compressors are used for the starting air for emergency power for the diesel engines and for cooling the turbines and reactor core with hydrogen. Power plant operators, diesel-engine manufacturers, engineering offices and contractors are among Sauer customers in this segment.
