Read more about perfluoropropane gas and perfluoropropane compressors here.

Properties of Perfluoropropane

Octafluoropropane (C3F8) is the perfluorinated counterpart to the hydrocarbon propane. It is a non-flammable and non-toxic synthetic substance. It is an extremely potent greenhouse gas.

Applications of Perfluoropropane

  • Semiconductor manufacturing
  • Medicine
  • Cooling gas

Case study Perfluoropropane

The inner detector of a large research facility measures the direction, momentum, and charge of the electrically charged particles produced in proton-proton collisions. It must be cooled to -20°C.

Seven HAUG perfluoropropane compressors compress the C3F8 gas in the cooling circuit, which ensures that the detector is cooled. More than 200 m away from the HAUG compression station, the liquid evaporates inside the detector structures to dissipate the approximately 60 kW of power generated by the detector electronics.
