Oil-free compression by oxygen compressor
Oxygen is one of the gases for which oil-free compression is mandatory. It is also required to clean the compressor “oil- and grease-free” before putting it into operation. This is due to the high flammability of oxygen.
Oxygen is a strong oxidizing agent. Impurities, oils, and greases can ignite in this environment, causing the compressor to catch fire. Specialized knowledge is therefore required to manufacture oxygen compressors that meet these high requirements. HAUG Sauer Kompressoren AG has been building industrial grade and highly praised oxygen compressors since the 1980s.
The oxygen compressors in the HAUG product line are often used as booster compressors for on-site gas generation plants. Oxygen is generated by a PSA, VPSA, or membrane plant. Depending on the process, the pressure after the generation plant is atmospheric pressure (VPSA) or around 4 bar (PSA). Depending on the application of the oxygen, the pressure must then be increased further. This is done by a booster compressor.
Oxygen applications in conjunction with an on-site gas generation plant include an independent oxygen supply in a hospital or in a mobile medical care station. Another application is the supply of oxygen in remote areas, e.g., for the extraction of raw materials such as gold or for metalworking.
