Combustion engine testing

Although Sauer compressors are well known from their role in shipping, e.g. starting diesel engines, a lesser-known fact that is they also play a key role in testing marine diesels, developing new ones and developing gas (e.g. natural gas) engines as well. Customers ranging from automotive and engine manufacturers to universities and research institutes use our compressors for starting air and natural gas storage.

Research institutes and universities

The highly demanding work carried out by state- and private-sector research facilities requires top-quality components to achieve ultra-accurate results. Moreover, downtime can be a serious cost factor that hits tight research budgets. That is one reason why numerous universities rely on Sauer compressors for helium recovery. Sauer compressors can help optimise the helium recovery and liquefaction process as their maximum leakage rate is a mere 0.1 mbar x l/s. Their economical design comes into its own in ultrasound tests in wind tunnels or vehicle crash tests – two applications requiring high volumes in an extremely short period of time. By saving time and cutting costs, Sauer compressors enable more tests to be carried out at shorter intervals.

Universities, research institutes, metrological facilities and automotive research departments are among our customers in the R&D field. Beside helium recovery, Sauer compressors are used for metrological research, ultrasound wind tunnels, nano-coatings and crash tests in the vehicle development process.
